Best Yoga SUP Boards

Table of contents

Over the past decade, getting a yoga SUP and venturing on the water as you try to unwind and relax has become incredibly popular. The sheer idea of doing yoga while also paddleboarding is a great one. Plus, you can find many yoga SUP options that you can find on the market, which is quite incredible in its own right. We all deal with pressure and anxiety from time to time, so yoga SUPs are a great option to help us unwind. Thankfully, there are a variety of options on the market, you just have to find the ones that suit your requirements.

What To Know Before Buying An Inflatable SUP For Yoga and Pilates?

Now that you decided to buy an inflatable SUP for pilates and yoga, it’s a really good idea to take your time and find the right option to suit your needs. There are many models on the market, so you want to go with one that’s dependable, reliable and easy to use. Yoga SUP boards are versatile, they are not meant to be used for a very high-speed experience though.

Stability

We always recommend getting an inflatable SUP that’s focused on stability. If you want to perform yoga or pilates on a board like this, it’s extremely important that it supports you properly. That’s why you want a board which is not slippery, long enough, and also extremely stable. All the simple things matter when it comes to finding the ideal board, so you just have to take your time and test out multiple boards to see what works for you and which one seems the most stable.

Shape

You want a board that’s wide, and it shouldn’t have a pointed nose. That’s a feature for high speeds, and you don’t want to worry about it. A hybrid model that has a pointed nose but which is also very wide can be a good tradeoff. But as we mentioned, you don’t want to focus too much on speed, as stability is the most important thing to focus on here.

Length

The best yoga SUP board should have 10 to 11 feet, as this gives you plenty of space and you can change postures without falling into the water. Again, width is important here, but staying within these length limits will also convey a great result too.

Load capacity

It’s a good idea to know your body weight, and also take the accessory weight into account. Then you want to add 25% of the total weight as well, just to ensure that the inflatable SUP won’t have a problem supporting you. The problem is that a heavily loaded board lacks stability. That’s the reason why you want to have a board which supports more load that you would ever bring on it. You will have a lot more stability and that alone can make a huge difference.

Fin setup

You don’t need a specialized fin setup if you’re doing yoga on your SUP. However, we noticed that a permanent 3-fin setup is great for yoga since you don’t have to worry about damaged fins or other problems. You could go for a configurable fin system if you want too. The removable fins add extra costs to the process, but then again you are also receiving a very good value for money, so that’s definitely a thing to take into consideration here.

What accessories should you choose for your YOGA SUP?

Sometimes when you buy a yoga SUP, it comes with accessories, but there are situations when you have to buy separate ones too. Generally, you want to ensure that your yoga SUP has at least the mandatory things like the fin, air pump, a paddle and a repair kit. If it has a carrying bag, that’s important since it makes the SUP more portable and easier to use as well.

If you want to take the yoga SUP as luggage, you will notice that some units have D rings mounted on the front area of the board. A waterproof backpack or an SUP drybag are other important things to keep in mind, and the results can be incredibly impressive unlike anything else you can find on the market.

Is an anchor needed?

Yes, because whenever you want to practice yoga on an SUP, stability is very important. You can also acquire a personal flotation device, since this is crucial for your safety. If for some reason you end up falling into the water, you don’t need to worry, since the PFD will keep you safe. You can go with a belt PFD, since it doesn’t distract you from your yoga experience, but it also keeps you safe.

When it comes to clothes, you don’t need anything special. A good idea is to try and acquire clothes that really fit the overall weather. You also want your clothes to help you move properly and not inhibit movement, since that becomes an issue.

Why should you consider doing yoga on an SUP?

The great thing about yoga on an SUP is that you can eliminate stress and anxiety. SUP yoga is great if you want to de-stress and unwind, while also improving your focus. It’s also helping you calm down if you deal with a lot of pressure during the day. To make things even better, yoga can help improve your mindfulness, which is extremely important to focus on.

As someone that deals with pressure often, you always want to de-stress the best way that you can, and the yoga SUP can help quite a bit. Plus, this is a fully body workout. You have to paddle to the spot, and then you need to perform various poses. So it’s definitely healthy, and it will convey some incredible results and benefits every time. You get to use most of your muscles here, and you will feel the benefits of yoga SUP as time goes by.

Mini review for the best 4 yoga SUPs

Bluefin Aura Fit 10’8”

The Bluefin Aura Fit 10’8” is an all-rounded unit, with 15 cm of thickness, 91 cm in width and 325 cm in length. It delivers great stability and the lack of a carrying handle makes it much easier to use all the time. You can load it up to 160 kg, and it can be great for trips for two as well. The quality is great, the product has tremendous ease of use and five d rings and a dedicated action mount. The Exo Surface Laminate technology is protecting the paddleboard against any damage, yet you can still obtain really good stability too. They added a tri-fin snap-lock setup too, which is great because it increases tracking and the overall performance, which is really important. Included with the package you also have a single chamber pump, travel backpack, waterproof phone case, repair kit, coiled ankle leash and the paddle.

Pro
  • Very stable and easy to use
  • 4 carry handle setups
  • 5 D-rings and an action mount
  • 5 years of warranty
  • Great accessories
Contra
  • It’s the heaviest unit in the list
  • While it’s stable, it’s very slow too
  • Some accessories might need upgrades

Thurso Surf 10’8” Tranquility

Right from the start, the Thurso Surf 10’8” Tranquility looks amazing and it’s designed from the ground up as a 34 inch wide board with good stiffness. On top of that, the deck pad is large, which makes it ideal for yoga. They also have 2 offset handles instead of a central one, so you can enjoy your yoga without a problem. Moreover, there are all kinds of accessories here, ranging from the pump to coiled safety leash, the travel paddle made out of a carbon hybrid and a great rolling backpack. They also added a repair kit in this, which is actually more than ok. Granted, it’s a bit heavy, but it still conveys great performance and it has a vast range of uses and benefits. That’s what makes it great for yoga and other great tasks like that.

Pro
  • Lots of great accessories
  • Very wide
  • A large, impressive deck pad
  • Nice paddle floats
Contra
  • A little on the heavy side
  • Maneuvering can be a bit tricky at times

Decathlon Itiwit X100 11’

What we like about the Decathlon Itiwit X100 11’ is that this is an entry level board that has a great performance to price ratio. It’s great for cruising and it also has nice paddling too. It’s a minimalist model, and it does not come with a pump. Its standing surface actually goes over the rails, and if you consider the board is 86 cm wide, you can see how this is great for enjoying yoga on a paddleboard. Another thing to note is that the product itself is offering a very good standing surface, and even if the standing surface is soft, you don’t need to worry about slipping either, which is something to keep in mind. If you’re a beginner and want to acquire an affordable yoga SUP, this is maybe the best option on the market.

Pro
  • Comes with 2 luggage rubbers
  • It’s very wide, yet lightweight
  • Soft, but non-slipping as well
  • Impressive quality for the price
Contra
  • They did not include a paddle or a pump
  • The fin is small

Aqua Marina Dhyana

Aqua Marina Dhyana comes within a multitude of sets, so you have some with accessories, while others lack them. The board is light, under 10kg, and it has 336x 91 cm. That being said, it’s 12 cm thick as well. You will notice it has 3 carrying straps, a D ring at the stern and bow, and also a luggage net. The fact that it’s 91 cm wide makes it perfect for trying out yoga on your SUP, since you have a massive surface to work with here. You can also perform more complex poses, just because this product is so distinct and unique in its own right. The fact that it doesn’t have a central handle might be a problem, but it does offer a larger, uninterrupted surface for you to work with.

Pro
  • Very good width
  • No carrying handle in the middle
  • Extremely stable and reliable
Contra
  • Not ideal for long tours
  • Due to its size, it’s hard to manage
  • Low speeds

Conclusion

If you’re looking for a great YOGA SUP, then these are some of the best models on the market. There are a vast range of options to consider, but the Bluefin Aura Fit 10’8” stands out as a high quality, dependable and reliable product. It has great features, great craftsmanship, and on top of that you can load up to 160 kg, which is amazing. All of these are extraordinary options, but if you want to get the best bang for your buck, we think that the Bluefin Aura Fit 10’8” is well worth your time and money!
